Gravel roads, or dirt, secondary roads, albeit asphalted, can be traveled with modern gravel bikes and are the ideal habitat for Abruzzo. The region offers many minor routes with little traffic, allowing you to discover and know Abruzzo centenary culture and traditions.
Follow these roads from the sea to the mountains, through a hilly landscape made of vineyards and olive groves, which gently accompanies you towards Abruzzo high peaks. Abruzzo Gravel is a journey of knowledge made up of true, genuine, unique experiences that only the territory and the people of Abruzzo can instill.

Day 1: Arrival in Sulmona
Individual arrival at the hotel in Sulmona. Briefing with the guide and tour preparation. Opportunity to visit the town with its several historical/cultural attractions in addition to the experience of seeing how the famous Sulmona sugared almonds are produced, a real international must.
Dinner and overnight.

Day 2: from Sulmona to Rocca di Cambio
A stage that will take us to know the Subequana Valley through Prezza, Goriano Sicoli, Castelvecchio Subequo. This first gentle and continuous climb will allow us to admire the valley from above with a splendid view moving towards Castelvecchio Subequo, one of the places Francis of Assisi used to go to. The medieval village of Castelvecchio Subequo rises on the top of a hill, in the centre of the Subequana valley, in the Sirente Velino Regional Park
Dinner and overnight.

Day 3: from Rocca di Cambio to Assergi / Fonte Cerreto
Today's stage will take us from the Rocche to L'Aquila area with a view of the Piana di Navelli and the Gran Sasso. We will pedal inside the Sirente Velino Regional Park, visited in the previous stagetoo, passing through the Pagliare di Tione and Terranera and we will go towards the the real gem of convent of Sant’Angelo. We will descend to the valley passing by the Stiffe Caves and then reach the beautiful old road that from Paganica climbs to Camarda and finally to Assergi. We will arrive at the foot of Gran Sasso and we will see Cima Giovanni Paolo II ° in the distance, proving the Pope's love for these places. Typical dinner and overnight.

Day 4: from Assergi / Fonte Cerreto to Pietracamela
Today you cycle towards San Pietro della Lenca, a sanctuary dedicated to Pope John XXIII, along an Apennine ridge closed to the traffic, within the Gran Sasso Monti della Laga National Park. We go to the Teramo side of Gran Sasso and we will pass by the Campotosto lagoon along the old road of the Park from the Capannelle Pass. After a wonderful descent along the gorges of the Fucino river, we will take the detour to Pietracamela, reached after a nice climb that will let us enjoy the Teramo side of Gran Sasso Monti della Laga. Dinner and overnight in this wonderful village.

Day 5: from Pietracamela to Castilenti
We immediately lose altitude for about 10 km, follow the dirt roads of Val Vomano up to Montorio and from there go up towards Cermignano, Cellino Attanasio up to the junction with Castilenti, along a road that makes us admire the gullies with our eyes up to Atri. We are traveling along the PICENO-APRUTINA SS81, the road that once represented the junction ridge between Marche and Abruzzo. Thanks to this wonderful road you’ll see the Adriatic on one side and Gran Sasso on the other one. Dinner in Castilenti and overnight in the vineyard.

Day 6: from Castilenti to Santo Stefano di Sessanio
The Gran Sasso National Park will be crossed almost entirely, climbing towards Penne, flanking the lake of the same name and climbing towards Farindola, along the Rigopiano / Vado di Sole road, crossed by the bicycles of the Giro d'Italia champions. Today the stage is really beautiful but demanding, especially after the past days kilometers felt in the heavy legs.The beauty of the itinerary, however, will soon make you forget the fatigue and pedaling through this wonderful National Park makes everything easier. We will arrive in Santo Stefano after a break at the Racollo Refuge. A great dinner will brighten the evening. Overnight.

Day 7: from Santo Stefano di Sessanio to Sulmona
Today is the day we meet Lady Hawks and the Rocca di Calascio which dominates the two valleys. We will go up for a visit and crossing Calascio until arriving with a steep descent to the Piana di Bussi from where we will see the Capo d'Acqua lake flanking the Tirino River. This climb was the scene of the cycling champions exploits in the recent ride of the Giro d'Italia. After the Tirino river, our wheels will turn towards Popoli da Bussi to glimpse the end of this wonderful ring between the Sirente Velino Regional Park and Gran Sasso Monti della Laga National Park. We will arrive in Sulmona to complete our Gravel tour. Dinner at the end of the tour and overnight.
